  1. I’m picking up on a connection with the last name of “Hurley.” Looking at achievements, Dan Hurley would be my first choice as well, but something doesn’t feel right. Question what his interest may be, or if he’d truly be engaged for the long haul. Intrigued by the Oats suggestion.

Beard would be an outstanding choice, but in knowing his bio, he likely has a much stronger draw to the knight family than his birthplace. I wonder if he just associates Lubboch to where he has his fondest memories or if he truly likes that town. Remember him getting blasted for leaving UNLV less than a month after signing there for the TT job. The guy is an absolute winner though.

What was your turning point with Kelsey? The loss to Fox earlier this year?

One point not mentioned in this article, though I know you’ve thought about, who trusts mcgarity to make this hire?

    1. Who trusts McGarity? Certainly not me. I just hope he gets lucky like he did in football. Otherwise, we’ll be stuck with another underperformer like the other hires he’s made.

BTW, nice job with the chart. Very helpful for a neophyte like me to sort through names.

      1. I heard it wasn’t Greg that wanted Kirby Smart. The powers that be and the purse strings made him hire Smart.

  2. Okay, going through the list, I pick Oats or Dooley. Oats since I’d like to see some excitement on the team and he should know the southeast for recruiting. And Dooley because I could recycle some of my gear from my college days.

Not sure if it would be hilarious or sad for us to get Calipari, but I could imagine it happening if a certain liquor magnate deemed it so.

  3. I have seen Edwards’s teams play conference foe and nationally ranked Nevada twice and they are hard nosed and play hard all the time. Love that kind of character which we saw out of Harrik’s teams. But we may encounter the same issue that we have with Fox: can a guy from out west recruit successfully in the Southeast?

    1. I second your comment Ralph Furly. I love the way Nevada plays and offense is not an issue for them. They are aggressive and always play tough. Somehow I missed Musselman’s name on the list posted for us. But would McGarity have the guts to try a second Nevada coach, and could Musselman recruit Atlanta and the Southeast. Open questions.

  4. Of your worthy names, I would like:
    Proven: Hurley – Either one
Hot Names: Joe Dooley, Allen Edwards
    Risk/Reward: John Brannen, Matt McMahon
