What is Chris Barnes Up To?

What is Chris Barnes up to?  Not THAT Chris Barnes!

The UGA Football Program recently had a commitment from Offensive Lineman Chris Barnes, but the name ‘Chris Barnes’ should immediately bring former Bulldog Power Forward Chris Barnes (2007-2011) to mind.  If you recall, Chris Barnes was a part of a rather good Class of 2007 that was plagued by injuries, eventual transfers and random acts of Dennis Felton inspired frustration.

Chris Barnes came to Georgia after Martavius Adams backed off his original commitment.  Much like the way Zac Swansey committed after Keegan Bell chose to decommit and play at Vanderbilt.  Barnes got the opportunity to actually play against Adams in his Senior campaign and did not disappoint as he scored 12 points and held Adams to 9 points.

Barnes, a 6’8″ 245 pound Power Forward from Riverdale, Georgia, was a spark plug and a matchup problem for many opponents in his freshman campaign on the 2008 SEC Tournament Champion team.  He unfortunately injured his meniscus against Tennessee, but his performance gave UGA huge boost and helped keep the Dawgs in the game against Bruce Pearl’s Vols.  Barnes would experience improved health and a different purpose on the floor as he was a defensive and rebounding cog in the 2010-11 NCAA Tournament team.  Barnes also was infamous for his horrific free throw shooting, but he did experience improvement at the line playing for Coach Fox compared to playing for Dennis Felton.

Chris Barnes graduated from UGA and immediately after played for Kedainiai Nevezis and Naglas Palanga in Lithuania.  He left Lithuania to play in much warmer Portugal for Barreirense-CEPSA in the Portuguese LPB and he averaged nearly a double-double per game there.  He came back to the Americas to play in Peru for CC Villa and currently is North of the Border in Missassauga, Ontario playing for the Missassauga Power in the National Basketball League of Canada.  UGA Alumni in Toronto should be sure to take the half hour drive down to Mississauga and cheer for him.

Here’s are a pair of nice highlight packages of Chris Barnes from his time at Georgia:

Here’s Barnes in action in Peru with CC Villa, he’s #15:

If when you heard about Chris Barnes, the High School Offensive Lineman commit, and thought immediately of Chris Barnes, the former UGA Basketball player, then you are not alone.  Now you know what Chris Barnes is doing.  Follow him on Twitter although he has not done anything there in a year.  He may be glad you did or not even notice!
