Dawgs do Dallas next season.
Georgia will play in the Global Sports Invitational Tournament in the 2020-21 Season, this is Georgia’s exhibition tournament of choice. Like the way Georgia visited the Cayman Islands last season and are set to visit Maui for a set of three exhibition games on a neutral floor, Georgia will be doing so in Dallas next season. Was there a coincidence that the Terry Travels Texas road tour took place with many of the power players in tow coming at the same time these negotiations were happening?
Georgia will be in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for a game at Moody Coliseum to face SMU as part of a home-and-home arrangement that is tied to three guaranteed home games and participation in this tournament. It cost UGA $255,000 for this whole deal to be executed through Global Sports Management in Buford, Georgia. A notable Event Management client of Global Sports Management is the Camellia Bowl.
Georgia opponents in this Global Sports Invitational Tournament are unknown and so are the three home game opponents that are tied to this deal. The venue for this tournament is also unknown, it could be a tournament that is played at Moody Coliseum, American Airlines Center (home of the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks) or even AT&T Stadium in Arlington. More details as to the venue and opponents will be eventually be released.
If you had your hopes up for a trip to Walt Disney World, New York City, The Bahamas, Myrtle Beach or Cancun for 2020, this will have to wait another year. This is a great opportunity for UGA’s large alumni base in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to be engaged with the Georgia Basketball program.
